19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been won on hard surfaces

A resurgent the Russian player claimed his initial title for over two years with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has experienced a challenging period, managing just one win at the major tournaments and undergoing a meltdown at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's varied form on the professional circuit - and issues with his serving in particular - resulted in him falling of the world's top 10 and finally separating with long-time trainer Cervara.

Currently working with his coach and his other coach, he has steadily progressed in the recent weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought competitive victory over Frenchman Moutet.

It is Medvedev's first championship after the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard surface after that period of that year.

Success also indicates Medvedev has secured twenty-one titles at 21 various competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a competition with my both daughters together, so to win a championship is particularly special," said world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in dedication of my younger daughter her name, because the maiden victory I won when my child my daughter was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had lost his previous six championship matches, including in the German tournament in the past months.

Medvedev's counter-punching play style and regular outbursts on the playing surface had prompted commentators to wonder if his capacity to perform at the elite level was over.

But the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, striving to approach the net and perform positively, supported by an better serving game.

The champion fought back from a deficit in the opening set against the tricky opponent, securing four of the last five exchanges to take the lead.

The competitors swapped break points in the following set before the Frenchman, bidding for his maiden tour victory, gained dominance to push for a final set.

Moutet defended 4 early opportunities in a close third set before the Russian broke to 15 to secure the win.

Fittingly, he secured victory with a rally at the net area, with Moutet failing to handle a volley after over two and a half hours.
