Local Law Enforcement
Around 50 automobiles have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with swastikas, they reported in a statement.
Police say they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued substance.
The fluid had been placed in the form of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then discovered many other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public display of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement report early analysis show the liquid was most likely blood from a person.
"There is still no clue as to its origin; authorities are not yet aware of any physical harm in relation with the event," they commented.
Municipal representatives said they were attempting "to solve the case" and have requested to the residents for details.
A senior political figure commented the incident made him without words and required to be solved rapidly.
"This incident affects the core of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the far-right attack in 2020," he wrote on social media, recalling the murder of nine victims by a gunman focusing on residents of migrant background in five years prior.
